The Borsacchio Nature Reserve, established in 2005, is located in the territory between Roseto degli Abruzzi (TE) and its hamlet of Cologna Spiaggia, between the Adriatic Sea and the hills of Cologna Paese and Montepagano. The area of the Reserve is characterized by its environmental and landscape integrity, not yet affected by the settlement development that has affected most of the territories of the Adriatic coast. The presence of embryonic dunes and stretches of Mediterranean scrub are the natural habitat of reproduction of rare species of birds, including the fratino, whose presence is the sign of a clean beach rich in spontaneous vegetation.

The lands of Cerrano

If you are at Casale Adriatico, in Pineto, you are in one of the four municipalities that make up the "Terre del Cerrano" area: Atri, Roseto, Silvi and Pineto, in the province of Teramo.

These four municipalities are linked by historical elements and natural and cultural characteristics that make it an area of pleasant discovery. They share a territorial disposition common to many places that have arisen along the Adriatic coast, namely the position of their ancient villages, born about ten kilometers from the sea for defensive reasons and at an altitude between 442 m s.l.m. of Atri and 243 m s.l.m. of Silvi Alta.

The urban agglomerations that wind along the coast are in all cases the consequence of a contemporary development, which began only at the dawn of the twentieth century. These new nuclei have gradually absorbed and favored the presence of essential public services, becoming in fact the headquarters of the new municipalities, descended from the ancient hilltop villages to the marina.

This is the story of Montepagano and Roseto degli Abruzzi, of Silvi Alta and Silvi Marina, and of Atri, Mutignano and Pineto.

These last three places have had a more articulated history: Mutignano, built in 958 d.C., was part of the ancient city of Atri, under whose jurisdiction it remained from 1251 to 1809, to later become autonomous and be included, starting from 1930, in the nascent Pineto, thus passing from municipal seat to fraction.

The area of the Terre del Cerrano boasts the presence of three valuable naturalistic areas , established for the protection and enhancement of some fauna and floral species:

A newly built cycle path marks the continuity of the Adriatic path between Roseto, Pineto and Silvi, an ideal route to comfortably visit the three towns stopping where you want, when you want.
